If this is something you might be considering, here’s some details about how it works and what’s possible:
Modeling, texturing, lighting and exporting to glTF in Blender
Adding HDRI lighting, Transparancy and Refraction shaders in the PlayCanvas glTF Web Viewer
The Process
1. Discovery
Is the object that needs to be reproduced available as CAD drawings? If not that’s ok, there are a variety of other methods to re-create the object depending on the complexity. Modeling from scratch is often the first approach but photogrammetry and 3D scanning are other possibilities.
2. The Deliverables: format counts…
Two formats have emerged as frontrunners for the ideal real-time 3D display: glTF and USDz. Each are being actively developed and supported by major tech companies and 3D applications developers. Most 3D editing software now carries some level of support to create each. Blender is a free, open source, and rapidly-being-developed application that is fast adding features and support for the glTF/GLB format.
3. Getting 3D on the Web
Some web browsers don’t (yet) natively support the display ofย 3D formats. A variety of real-time 3D platforms have been developed to make this possible: Khronos (the group responsible for the development of glTF), Babylon.js, Three.js, PlayCanvas (three.js based), model-viewer (three.js based, developed out of Google). Each has viewing, interactivity support, and in some cases are full-blown game and development platforms.
There are also SaaS services like Vectary that allow you to create more advanced uapplications but with offers a more friendly Web UI.
3D Games for Web
The Three.js platform offers full game engine for development using ultra-efficient 3D glTF assets.
Fuel Runner
The Fuel Runner ๐โฝ๏ธ gamification project featured a fun and addictive 3 lane car game: collect free prizes for redemption in-store AND make the longest run before crashing or running out of fuel to place on a nationwide leaderboard.
The cars were an intentionally basic, low poly design for efficiency and lightning fast load times, with springy swerve and crash animations. The design also allowed for a value added offering: partner brands could add branded cars for players to choose from.

Drink Snack Score
The Drink Snack Score! game offered players the chance to try their hand at a bubble-hockey-style shootout against a twitchy goalie. Canada was the market, so the campaign almost sold itself ๐๐ฅ ๐จ๐ฆ.
The boards behind the goal offered up the obvious spot for partner brand placement. But the jersey design on the goalie was also setup for quick branding updates for future activations:

Using 3D Models in Presentation Decks
3D in presentation decks has been a somewhat under used, but highly effective way to show off a product or use case from any angle.
Powerpoint has had the ability to integrate 3D glTF models for just over 4 years. And very recetly Apple Keynote introduced a new version with the ability to integrate USDz models.
Imagine blowing your potential client away with a dynamic, free wheeling 3D version of your product in a presentation deck.

What’s next?
Crafting a gorgeous, easy-on-the-eyes, 3D model of your product for your customers to have a look around is not that far out of reach… or complicated to get created.
